Dear DX/TX owner, Thanks for downloading Livewire Audio's sounds for the Yamaha DX7, TX7, TX802, and TX816 synthesizers. These sounds will also work with the DX7II and DX7S synths. Livewire has programmed thousands of DX7 sounds, uploaded this sound set, prepared this document, and extensively tested the sounds with all the aforementioned synths, all at no charge. All we ask is that, if you like the sounds, you send in payment for the full patch library. If you are using an IBM-PC compatible computer, you MUST have a MIDI interface that is compatible with the industry-standard Roland MPU-401 MIDI interface to load these sounds. We have had much success with the MIDI Quest boards, which are a heck of a lot cheaper than Roland's, and more compact to boot! Most non-standard MIDI interfaces (such as the Key external) and some game boards will not work. You may be able to use a Windows MIDI dumper program (if your MIDI card provides a Windows driver) to load these sounds. However, we cannot guarantee these sounds will load unless you use a genuine MPU-401 compatible MIDI card. Apple Macintosh and Atari ST users can use any normal MIDI interface to load these sounds. The enclosed files consist of four banks of sounds for your synth, with about ten sounds in each bank. If you like the sounds, send in a check or money order for $20, and you will receive the full patch library of sounds, plus a copy of the original factory sounds, the latest version of a patch loader program, and a complete hardcopy list of all the banks of sounds. There are over 4000 sounds in the full patch library - not a bad deal for $20! These sound patches may be freely uploaded onto any public or private BBS, as long as this text file accompanies the sound set. These sound patches are copyright 1995 by Mick Seeley for Livewire Audio. All rights are reserved, etc. REQUIRED PROGRAMS TO LOAD OUR SOUNDS To load the enclosed sounds, you must have a program that can load standard MIDIEX files. For the IBM, MIDIEX is the usual loader program. Windows users can use WSYSEX.EXE. Mac users should use MIDIEX-MAC. Atari ST users can use either MIDISAVE.TOS, or the Mini-Dumpstor desk accessory. All of these programs are included FREE on our shareware disk, when you send in your payment. SETTING UP THE SYNTH FOR MIDI DATA TRANSFER To load our patches, run a MIDI cord from MIDI out of your computer to MIDI in on the M1. Make sure you have saved the existing patches in your synth, because they WILL be erased once you load our data. Turn off the write-protect, set the synth to MIDI channel 1, and put system exclusive on when loading these patches into your DX or TX! Consult your owner's manual if you don't know how to operate these functions. Once your synth is all set up, follow the directions for your specific computer below. LOADING ATARI ST DISKS Copy the Mini-Dumpstor DA to your boot disk, along with the DX7 data files. Re-boot the ST. When done loading, press "return" for normal Mini-Dumpstor speed. Pull down the desk accessory labelled "Mini Dumpstor", and select whichever bank you desire to be loaded into your DX/TX from the disk menu. The file will load into your synth when you double-click on it. LOADING IBM PC DISKS Boot up your PC, and type "MIDIEX" and press return. MIDIEX is a simple generic MIDI patch librarian. After loading it will give you a choice of either T (transmit), R (receive), F (to list the files), or escape (to quit). Type "T" and the name of whatever file you want to load, and the file will be transferred from the disk, thru your MIDI interface, and into the synth. See the MIDIEX.TXT file on disk for more info, or if you need to change your MIDI interface hardware interrupt to anything other than interrupt 2 (the default). Windows users may want to try "WSYSEX.EXE" also included on the disk to load our sounds. This public domain Windows program has not been tested by us, and is not guaranteed to load our sounds. LOADING MACINTOSH DISKS Double-click on the Midiex-Mac program. Click the mouse button to clear the screen, and an empty Midiex window will appear. Click once on the top "empty" bank in the Midiex window to select it (the bank will now be dark, meaning you have selected this bank). Move the mouse pointer up to the "Files" menu, and select "open". A dialog box will appear - enter the Livewire DX Library folder by double-clicking on it. You will now see many other folders, such as Acoustic, Bass, Brass, etc. Double-click on any folder to enter it. Select any of the patch banks listed by double-clicking on it, and the file will load into the Midiex bank you selected. Press command-D on your keyboard, or use the mouse by selecting "send dump" from the Midiex pull-down menu, and the file will load into your synth. TROUBLESHOOTING Can't get your sounds to load correctly? We have tested all our sounds extensively with the synth they were designed for. If your's didn't load correctly, chances are you did something wrong. Go back to the setup section and double-check everything. Make sure you're using good MIDI cables. If you have purchased one of our sound banks, you can call us for free technical support at (908) 222-1227. If you couldn't even send in a measly shareware payment, yer on yer own, pal! TIPS Note that some patches won't sound "right" if played without the proper feeling, nuance, or out of context. Play a violin patch while THINKING like a real violinist - not by bashing out chords on the keyboard! Of course a reverb, chorus box or MIDIing your DX to any other synth produces some amazing tonal combinations too. Enjoy your new sounds, and keep us in mind for any other sounds you may need for any synth. And, hey, if you like the sounds, SEND IN YOUR SHAREWARE PAYMENT, so we can keep on bringing you new synth sounds.
